The Pi is powered with the usb c plug that came with the raspberry 27w usb c power supply that came with the starter kit I ordered from the Pi hut.How are you powering the P5?Hi, I'm an absolute beginner with stuff like this so apologies if this is a really simple fix but I cannot figure it out.
I've just got a Raspberry Pi 5 which I intend to use as a streaming box with an external hard drive. I still have Rasbpian imaged to a 32GB SD card for the operating system. The hard drive I has is a WD 2TB My Passport HDD. Every time I plug this into the Raspberry Pi and try to view the files in there a message comes up showing 'An operation is already pending' and I can't view any files in there. I've checked this on a chromebook and everything opens fine in there.
I've tried using the process laid out here
https://raspberrypi-guide.github.io/fil ... rnal-drive
But when I get to the sudo mount bit in the terminal it comes up with this "ntfs-3g-mount: mount failed: Device or resource busy"
Is there any way to get this drive to mount so I can view the files on it?
What else is plugged in to the USB ports?
Are you "hot-plugging" the drive or having it plugged in prior to powering/booting up the P5?
Something else to try (I'm not familiar with the above guide and don't "do things" that way):
Install the gnome-disk-utility (via "Add/Remove Software" or apt) and check that it can see the drive. It also has it's own mount option which may work but ask for your password.
(FWIW here's an example, albeit for a USB3-to-SATA connected SSD: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_p ... P210_128GB
and there are other examples within my webpages.)
Trev.
The only other thing plugged in is the usb dongle for the mouse and keyboard.
I've tried plugging the drive in before turning the pi on and plugging it in before turning it on. It doesn't seem to make a difference.
I'll try installing it that gnome thing later today. Would a SATA connection be better than plugging it into the USB ports? I did think it could be something wrong with the drive itself so have been considering swapping it for another one, probably an SDD. I've just been using what I already had.
Thanks for the help.
