i don't think it's anything he's doing or hardware issues.
it pretty much just comes down to how wayfire works and having to get use to it.
old timers like me have a lot of muscle memory and expect things to be setup for that, expect certain behaviors of the desktop, etc....
wayfire kinda requires relearning, changing habits, etc....
i've tried to get use to it, i can use it, i can make it do what i need, i just don't like it. Image may be NSFW.

normally i'm a gnome desktop user, but since i setup a kde install for a friend it's actually very easily configurable and just works, less fighting to make it do what i want then other desktops. never thought i would consider changing. Image may be NSFW.
