that's because the pixel shape is rectangular and square.
Why do you need to hardcode the display type into your image? Stops people - like me i.e. - from using them.

I'm not sure I got your point about pixel shape. If it's not square you will never get a right circle shape using a native/hardware resolution.
Using disk images created for a specific display simplifies the installation process a lot. There is also the way to install everything manually. I provide a wiki page for that as well.
